We’re pleased to announce the launch of Pils today in 6-packs of 12 oz. bottles across our full distribution territory.
The 2nd Place Winner in the Continental Pilsner Category in the 2014 Great International Beer, Cider & Mead Competition, Pils is an authentic German-style Pilsner possessing the true noble hop character that made Pilsner the most popular beer style worldwide.
Keeping with our commitment to producing a true German character in our biers, Pils is brewed with 100 percent imported German malt and hops, and has an assertive but delicate bitterness and a crisp, dry finish. Many domestic lagers call themselves a pilsner, but they forgot the hops. We didn’t.
When we started design work on our bottle labels in 2015, we decided to depict cityscapes that highlight the historical and cultural soul of Kansas City. For Pils, we chose the southward looking view of downtown and the Missouri River to highlight the importance of the river. Kansas City is located where boats can no longer sail west because the river turns north.
Thus, the area became the starting point for major overland routes westward like the Santa Fe, California, and Oregon Trails. The Broadway Bridge suggests the importance of bridging the river by the railroad that brought cattle, grain, and coal from western states after the Civil War.
This commerce laid the foundation for the city’s rapid growth in the late 19th Century and still maintains Kansas City as the one of the country’s busiest rail freight hubs.
As Kansas City’s largest locally-owned brewery, we’re also proud to be joining the more than 3,000 breweries using the Certified Independent Craft seal, introduced by the Brewers Association trade group in 2017 to identify products as brewed and packaged by certified, independently-owned craft brewers. You’ll see this seal on the Pils label and others in the future.
Use the bier finder to identify retailers that will have Pils on shelves and/or on tap, and please let us know what you think of the bier. We look forward to hearing from you!
