Kansas City Bier Company was awarded two medals at the 2025 Great American Beer Festival on October 11th: a Silver Medal for Dunkelbock in the German-Style Doppelbock or Eisbock category, and a Gold Medal for Kölsch in the German-Style Koelsch category. This marks the second year in a row that the brewery has brought home a gold medal from GABF- in 2024, KC Bier Co and Mike and Stephanie Butler won the Gold Medal in the GABF ProAm Competition for the collaboration bier Pivo Grodziskie.

The Great American Beer Festival, which is run by the Brewers Association, is the largest beer competition in North America and the 2nd second largest internationally behind the World Beer Cup, which is also sponsored by the Brewers Association. Over seven days, 250 expert judges evaluated 8,315 beer and cider entries in 108 categories—from 1,555 breweries spanning all 50 states and Washington, D.C.
The Kansas City Bier Company focuses on brewing authentic German-style beer using imported German malt and hops and using traditional brewing methods like decoction mashing, two-tank cellaring for fermentation and conditioning, and brewing with only malt, hops, water and yeast according to the German Beer Purity Law of 1516. Winning medals for two beloved German styles such as Kölsch and Doppelbock is extra special to the brewery: founder Steve Holle, said “Our production team employs many time-consuming methods to follow traditional German brewing methods that are gradually going out of use, so it is gratifying that the competition judges validated what we are doing.”
