We’re pleased to share that our Winterbock was awarded a silver medal in the German-Style Doppelbock category at the 2018 World Beer Cup! Organized bi-annually by the Brewers Association, a not-for-profit trade association dedicated to small and independent brewers, the World Beer Cup is the most prestigious beer competition in the world.
KC Bier Co. was the only Kansas City brewery to receive a medal at this year’s World Beer Cup.
The 2018 awards were announced at the conclusion of the Craft Brewers Conference in Nashville on May 3. This year’s competition was the largest to date:
- 8,234 entries
- 2,515 breweries
- 295 judges
- 101 style categories
- 33 countries represented
Steve Holle, KC Bier Co. managing owner, said the World Beer Cup medal is a testament to our commitment to brewing high-quality and genuine German-style beers using only traditional German brewing methods and all-imported German ingredients.
“Our mission always has been to brew authentic-tasting German-style beer and deliver it with the same character, flavor and freshness as beer brewed and consumed in Germany. We went to great lengths to brew Winterbock in the traditional way — double decoction, natural carbonation, and eight weeks of cold lagering.
We’re honored that the judges recognized the flavor contributions of these time-honored brewing methods that helped Winterbock stand out among the 79 entries in this category.”
An 8.25% ABV, dark, full-bodied lager with rich caramel, chocolate and coffee malt flavors with low bitterness and a slightly sweet, smooth finish, Winterbock will be available mid-November on draft and in 6-packs of 12 oz. bottles throughout our distribution footprint as a winter seasonal.
And of course, it will be on draft in the Bierhalle.
