Control + Alt + Repeat is a scale-up of a Düsseldorf-style Altbier recipe created by Eric Claycamp, winner of the KC Bier Meisters annual homebrew competition. It’s a dry, easy-drinking dark brown ale with a balance of malt, fruity ale fermentation flavors and hop bitterness, common to the Düsseldorf area of western Germany. Alt means “old” in German, a reference to the older tradition of brewing with top fermenting yeast. Like their neighbors to the south in Köln, who are known for brewing Kölsch, a crisp golden ale, Altbier brewers in Düsseldorf produce their darker ale with cool fermentation temperatures and long, cold conditioning times to mellow their brews.
