We’ve received a handful of inquiries via email and on our social media pages if the brewery will continue to sell bier to go directly to customers from the Bierhalle. There are no additional plans to sell bier to go at this time. We are continuing to brew and bottle bier for sales at retail liquor and grocery stores. The best way to continue supporting the brewery is to purchase 6-packs and/or 12-packs at these locations within our distribution footprint. We encourage all customers to continue practicing safe social distancing when making runs to restock food and other supplies needed while you are staying home. Thanks for your support, please stay safe and healthy, and we look forward to serving you bier again in the future.

Protecting the health and well-being of our employees and customers is of utmost importance. We strongly encourage everyone to immediately implement social distancing to help slow the rate of COVID-19 in our communities.
This is an extremely challenging time for local breweries, who will be impacted by the stoppage of keg sales to area bars, restaurants and tap rooms, as city ordinances now require them to close their doors to the public. If you’re able, please support local businesses as best you can to ensure we’re able to make it through these challenging times.
The Year in Bier: 2019
KC Bier Co. Attains
Regional Brewer Status
Kansas City’s Largest Independent and Locally Owned
Brewery Now Among Top 3 Percent of U.S. Breweries
Jan. 10, 2020 – Kansas City, Mo. — KC Bier Co., Kansas City’s largest independent and locally-owned brewery, announces that it has advanced from microbrewery status to regional brewer status, per definitions set by the Brewers Association (BA), the national trade group representing the craft beer industry in the United States.
The brewery attained this status with its production volume of 16,526 barrels of bier in 2019 — a 24 percent increase over 2018 — which also outpaces the 4 percent national average growth rate for independent craft brewers. As a regional brewer, KC Bier Co. is now part of a class of breweries representing approximately the top 3 percent of all breweries in the U.S.
According to the BA 2018 data, there were 7,346 total breweries operating in the U.S., of which 7,116 breweries, or approximately 97 percent, are defined as brewpubs and microbreweries, while only 230 are defined as regional breweries. (2019 data is not yet available).
Steve Holle, KC Bier Co. founder and managing owner, said the brewery’s growth into regional status is a testament to its commitment to brewing high-quality and genuine German-style beers using time-honored traditional German brewing methods and only four ingredients: water, yeast, and all-imported German malt and hops.
“Our mission always has been to brew authentic-tasting German-style beer and deliver it with the same character, flavor and freshness as beer brewed and consumed in Germany,” Holle said. “We’re grateful for the consumers, retailers and our distributors who helped us achieve this milestone in only six years even through our distribution area included just one major city, Kansas and western Missouri.”
Other brewery highlights from 2019 include the brewery’s Helles Lager being named one of the 19 Best Beers of 2019 by Craft Beer & Brewing Magazine, a national trade publication; being named one of the Top 10 Small Businesses of the Year by the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce; and the brewery’s KC Oktoberfest, which drew more than 11,000 attendees to Crown Center on Oct. 4-5, was named Favorite Beer Festival in KC in VisitKC’s 2019 Visitors’ Choice Awards.

Announcing 2019 KC Oktoberfest
We’re excited to announce that our two-day KC Oktoberfest will return to Crown Center in 2019 and transform one of Kansas City’s most iconic venues into a “Munich of the Midwest” on Oct. 4-5!
One of Kansas City’s fastest-growing traditions, KC Oktoberfest started in our Biergarten in 2014, where it became a local favorite with its exciting atmosphere showcasing our fresh German-style bier, exceptional local food and lively entertainment. To accommodate the growing crowds and excitement surrounding KC Oktoberfest, we relocated the event to Crown Center in 2018, where we enjoyed the company of nearly 10,000 people for the two-day event!
KC Oktoberfest is solidifying itself as a signature Kansas City event and as a major regional festival that is comparable in size and authenticity to other Midwestern cities. Our city, and the Midwest on a larger scale, were widely settled by German immigrants, and we’re excited to celebrate that heritage by providing a true Oktoberfest experience in an iconic Kansas City location.
Festival Amenities and Entertainment
Modeled after the traditional Munich Oktoberfest in Germany, KC Oktoberfest will again feature our German-style bier, local food vendors, a free Kids & Family Activity Zone, games and competitions, a marketplace/vendor square and entertainment by local and national performers.
We’ve confirmed headline performances by national acts Die Schlauberger (New York) and Das ist Lustig (Texas), in addition to returning Kansas City performers Polka on Steroids and The Happy Wanderers. Other entertainment will be announced at a later date.
We’ll have seating for thousands of guests under two large tents with benches and tables, including the main Crown Center terrace tent and a second German Bierhalle-style tent. Grünauer, a popular local restaurant serving Austrian and central European cuisine, will return as a main food vendor along with Scimeca’s Sausages and other vendors to be announced.
Bier and Wein
As is tradition, we’ll provide a range of authentic German-style bier for the event, including the awarding winning Festbier, a Vienna-style lager, the official bier of KC Oktoberfest. In 2018, The Beer Connoisseur magazine rated Festbier “World Class” based on its 96 rating, which also earned it the position of #10 on the magazine’s list of the top 250 beers of 2018.
Festbier joins the brewery’s list of acclaimed year-round offerings at Oktoberfest that include Helles Lager (94 rating) and Hefeweizen (93), both rated by The Beer Connoisseur magazine as well as Pils (92) and Dunkel (92), both rated by Craft Beer & Brewing magazine.
Read more about the bier reviews here.
In addition to German-style bier, the festival will offer wine, cider, water and soft drinks at several beverage stations throughout the festival grounds.
